In collaboration with the Fifth Ward Redevelopment Authority, East River will serve as a new gateway enriching the lives of an already deeply historic and proud community.
On December 10, 2020, the first comprehensive community benefits agreement in the City of Houston was executed between KBRN, LP, East River Property Owners Association, and the Fifth Ward Redevelopment Authority. The CBA provided for certain goals related to affordable housing, employment, business opportunities, community investment and other benefits to the Fifth Ward community.
On June 10, 2024 Midway welcomed members of the community to its annual meeting to hear about the progress for East River. This ambitious 20-year endeavor began its initial phase in 2021. While there is still much work ahead to fully reap the project's benefits, we are encouraged by the advancements achieved during Phase 1. A key contribution to our effort is provided by the Community Advisory Council (CAC). The CAC helps provide feedback to KBRN on community needs on behalf of the Fifth Ward residents and business owners. Per the CBA, the CAC must include: one member from KBRN, East River Property Owners Association, and TIRZ 18; one member from Fifth Ward Chamber of Commerce; two members from an area non-profit organization; and two Fifth Ward residents and/or business owners.
LATEST CBA REPORTDevelop policies, such as those for the distribution of the Community Investment Fund, for consideration by the CAC.
