Moonstruck Drive-In Cinema is coming to East Downtown

Looks like Houston is becoming a drive-in city.

The latest addition is Moonstruck Drive-In Cinema at East River, opening Sept. 3 in East Downtown. Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” will open the location, which will feature new releases and classics.

Movies will show at 8:30 p.m. nightly, with additional showings on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. Films will be projected on a 40 by 80 foot structure made of shipping containers. Audio will be broadcast through an FM transmitter to car stereos.

Each showing can accommodate approximately 200 cars, and guests are required to stay within the width of their parking space if outside their cars. Parking spots will be first-come, first-serve.

Moonstruck is located at 100 Bringhurst, off Clinton and is a collaboration between Blue Moon Cinemas and Showboat Drive-In at Hockley. It will be part of East River, a 15-acre “economic center” currently in development.

Tickets start at $25 and will be available this week at www.moonstruckdrivein.com. Food and beverages will be available from food trucks, Fifth Ward and East End establishments.
