Midway’s East River seeks tenants with splashy new images
Imagine a mixed-use development as big as three CityCentres within a mile of downtown Houston. Midway appears to be working toward that goal based on the company’s latest marketing materials for East River, the company’s proposed 150-acre project along Buffalo Bayou.
A brochure outlines details for the first of five phases and names CBRE retail brokers as the leasing reps. Renderings and site plans (picked up last week from the recently shuttered Swamplot) show retail, office and apartment buildings along with a plaza and museum on the property’s west side at Clinton Drive and Jensen. The land happens to be in a newly designated Opportunity Zone.
William Harrison of Cathexis bought the acreage in late 2012 and formed a joint venture with Houston-based Midway with the intention of transforming the former industrial site once occupied by Brown & Root Engineering and Construction Co. into the next-generation CityCentre, its mixed-use juggernaut along the Beltway.
